Te Kotahitanga

Gallery ImageMount Maunganui College has been part of the Te Kotahitanga Research and Professional Development Project since 2003. The goal is to raise Maori student achievement in mainstream schools. At this stage it is a Year 9 & 10 programme. We currently have 55 teachers trained and participating in the programme.

An essential element of the programme is to build relationships between staff and students that reflect high expectations in learning and behaviour. This is supported by a well-managed learning environment that is responsive to students as cultural individuals.

Year 10 Maori Enrichment Classes
Gallery ImageMaori students from Year 9 are invited to be part of a Year 10 curriculum class. The subject choices and curriculum are the same as other classes at the same level. Parents and whanau are encouraged to attend hui and participate in their child’s education as much as possible.

Two of the aims of this class are to:

• Develop leadership potential and skills.

Each class since 2004 has chosen to remain as a form class at senior level even though individual students may be in different classes.
