Please read carefully the dates below for school closure and events.

The Kahui Ako has made a collective decision to postpone the Teacher Only Day which was to be held on Monday, 14 November until Term 1 2023.  Mount Maunganui College will be open as normal on that Monday.

We have also been informed this week that the Post Primary Teacher's Association (PPTA) of a paid union meeting happening for all secondary schools in the region on Friday 2 December.  School will finish at 12 noon and supervision of any students unable to return home will be supervised in the school library.  There are a couple of scheduled school events on this day, and we are currently investigating whether these will continue and we will inform relevant families closer to the time.

We appreciate the community's support as teachers meet to discuss their conditions of service.

With these changes listed above, we would like to remind you of the PPTA Union Accord Days scheduled for Thursday 24 November and Friday 25 November.  As part of our school's commitment to the Secondary Teacher's Collective Agreement, these dates will remain as scheduled in our school calendar.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

REMINDER CELLPHONE PROCEDURE UPDATE

The Board of Members has decided to remove any use of cell phones in class.  This policy change will commence Wednesday 2 November, allowing staff and junior students to adjust to the change before the beginning of 2023.  The policy will be reviewed throughout 2023 to assess its effectiveness, and we will share any further updates with you.

SCHOOLWIDE CELLPHONE PROCEDURE:

  1. On arrival into the teaching space, all students are to be told to place their cell phones in their bags or in a secure place (the teacher will provide).

  2. If a cell phone is seen during the lesson, it is confiscated and taken to the Main Office at the earliest convenience for the teacher. The Main Office will ring the family to explain that the cell phone can be collected from them the next day.

  3. If a student refuses to hand over their cell phone the teacher is to contact the assigned Dean or SLT for that period, and they will come to your class. Use the phone app on your laptop to contact them.

  4. These students will be removed from all classes for 24 hours to B6.

  5. A second cell phone offence will be treated as continual disobedience in the normal way.
