Tēnā koutou katoa.

We have had much to celebrate recently at Mount Maunganui College, not least our Year 13 Graduation, where we farewell our school leavers as they take their next step into the adult world. We had a wonderful afternoon at Baycourt, and it is remarkable to hear what our students are planning for 2023 and beyond. I want to acknowledge the considerable support our students receive from our local community through scholarships and study grants. To graduate, you must meet specific criteria, including attendance, community service and academic rigour, so congratulations to our Graduates for 2022.

On Wednesday evening, we also celebrated the release of our school album. So much hard work and time have gone into producing this year's album, and I acknowledge the students and staff that made this possible. Special thanks to the co-head of Music Tia Beaufort, who drives this wonderful initiative. This is the third consecutive year Mount Maunganui College has released an album, and all three can be found on your favourite streaming service.

Thanks to Director of Sports Dan Meade for coordinating our annual Mauao Tournament, where we welcome our contributing primary schools for a fun sports day here at the college. The competition looked fierce and reflected the importance of sport in our local community. Ultimately, as well as allowing young students another opportunity to represent their primary school and get active, the day gives our Year 10 Sports Performance students a chance to demonstrate leadership and service to our community. Thanks to all students who were involved in this tournament.

Next week we are looking forward to our Year 9 Activities and Year 10 Camps. We encourage all students to make the most of the opportunities available before we finish the year. Junior prizegiving and Dean’s Assemblies will round off the year next Friday, and we will keep you up to date if these affect you or your child.

I would like to thank you for your support of our staff as they enter into contract negotiations with the Government and acknowledge the disruption this has caused to the term so far.

Ngā mihi nui,

Alastair Sinton
Principal

UNIFORM

Thank you to all families who do a great job supporting their children to wear the correct uniform.

As planning starts for 2023, we want to remind our community of our school uniform expectations by clicking here.

Typical uniform issues that occur:

  • Non-regulation shorts or pants - These must be purchased from NZ Uniforms from 2023
  • Non-polishable shoes
  • Sandals without back straps
  • Incorrect socks
  • Longsleeve polyprop under uniform
  • Facial jewellery (link)
  • Incorrect jumper

Many students return from holidays with inappropriate hair colour. Please ensure your child is making good choices in the lead-up to school return by referring to the school uniform expectations by clicking here.

If students cannot secure appropriate uniform items, the school will provide the necessary items daily. Students are expected to manage this through our uniform office in B6 before school starts each day.

Our school community has high expectations around student presentations, and we expect students to rise to these expectations.

Repeated failure to adhere to our uniform guidelines will be treated as defiance by school leadership.
