Tēnā koutou katoa

Welcome to our final newsletter of 2022. It has been a very successful year for Mount Maunganui College, with excellent results and achievements by staff and students across all areas of the school.

Today we celebrated our junior academic success at our junior prizegiving. Congratulations to all award winners, and congratulations to those who earned awards at yesterday’s Dean's Prizegiving. Major award winners are listed below, but special mention needs to go to our Junior Proxime Accessit Amaya Greene and Junior Dux Sofia Arlund.

There is some important information below regarding the start of the 2023 school year. Please read it carefully and let us know if there are any reasons your child or children may be unable to meet those expectations.

Finally, thank you for your continued support. From the whole team at Mount Maunganui College, we wish you all a safe and relaxing summer.

Ngā mihi nui,

Alastair Sinton
Principal

UNIFORM

Thank you to all families who do a great job supporting their children to wear the correct uniform.

As planning starts for 2023, we want to remind our community of our school uniform expectations by clicking here.

Typical uniform issues that occur:

  • Non-regulation shorts or pants - These must be purchased from NZ Uniforms from 2023
  • Non-polishable shoes
  • Sandals without back straps
  • Incorrect socks
  • Longsleeve polyprop under uniform
  • Facial jewellery (link)
  • Incorrect jumper

Many students return from holidays with inappropriate hair colour. Please ensure your child is making good choices in the lead-up to school return by referring to the school uniform expectations by clicking here.

If students cannot secure appropriate uniform items, the school will provide the necessary items daily. Students are expected to manage this through our uniform office in B6 before school starts each day.

Our school community has high expectations around student presentations, and we expect students to rise to these expectations.

Repeated failure to adhere to our uniform guidelines will be treated as defiance by school leadership.

PARENT SUPPORT GROUP (PSG)

2023 uniform sale
Wednesday, 25 January at 5pm

Our uniform sale fundraiser will be taking place early next year - if you have any items of MMC uniform that aren’t being used, please consider donating them!

All funds raised go towards the MMC Parent Support Group’s fundraising projects.

BYOD

BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE

Next year, Mount Maunganui College will become a fully BYOD school. We expect students to bring an appropriate learning device such as a Chromebook, laptop or tablet with keyboard to school everyday to support and enhance their learning.

If you are interested in purchasing a device for your student, we recommend a Chromebook as these are durable, affordable and designed for everyday use by students. More information about purchasing the right device for your student can be found here.

Good Loans provide access to fair and affordable interest-free loans for your BYOD purchase. Please read the Good Loans flyer if you would like further information by clicking here.

We encourage families to look into purchasing a device as this will be a valuable learning tool for students as they progress through school and into their future pathways. However, we understand that not all students will be able to purchase or have access to a device that they can bring to school daily. Therefore, any student who is unable to have daily access to their own appropriate learning device will be allocated a school Chromebook in Term 1, 2023.

Further information about BYOD at Mount Maunganui College, including links to special deals, can be found on our school website by clicking here.

If you have any questions or queries, please email reneed@mmc.school.nz

Ngā mihi

Renee Draffin
Assistant Principal
