From the Principal
26 March 2021

Kia ora tātou e te whānau,

While we have a large amount of sporting news to update the community on over the coming weeks I thought I would pause and share our confirmed 2020 NCEA results with you all.

Nationally, NCEA achievement rates increased by 2 - 4 per cent across most indicators. This will in part be due to the shifting of achievement thresholds that were introduced in response to lockdowns and disruption to learning. Mount Maunganui College’s pass rates mirrored this trend at NCEA Level Two but increased significantly at NCEA Level’s One, Three and University Entrance. While all of these results were pleasing, it is important to put them into context. Mount Maunganui College has achieved above National and Decile averages for over a decade so I thought I would share with you just how far above those averages we are performing.

Also worthy of note for 2020 were our NCEA Excellence Endorsements particularly at NCEA Level 3 where nearly one in three of our Year 13 students endorsed with Excellence.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff, students and families who make these outstanding results possible. As a college, we are looking forward to reaching these academic targets again in 2021.

Thank you also to all the families who attended our school interviews last week. Our partnership is important for student success so these opportunities are essential to strengthen this partnership. Over the course of the evening and the following day we met with 1250 families and hosted over 4000 interviews. While we are looking forward to seeing you all again in term two, remember our staff are available for contact at any time. The most reliable way to contact your child’s teacher is via email. These are released on the school report issued in the lead up to interviews.

Noho ora mai,
Alastair Sinton
Principal
