Kia ora and welcome to Oceanside for 2025 As always, the first term is busy as we welcome new students and families into our school community. 2024 NCEA achievement rates remain above national averages, ensuring Mount Maunganui College remains one of the top public schools in the Bay of Plenty. Alongside that was a very strong year of scholarship results, with English securing nine scholarships in that subject alone. Below, we highlight the remarkable achievements of Luca Ririnui in those examinations and spotlight Te Kehukehu Butler and his work with Māori art and global brand Quiksilver. Those who have driven past the school recently will see construction underway for our new teaching blocks. 32 classrooms will be built, providing much-needed space for our science, mathematics, and ICT departments. |
After celebrating the recent success of some of our high achievers, we throw it back 60 years and feature a few pages from the 1965 year book. |
______________________________________________________________ IN MEMORIUMSioux Clarkson has been with the college since 1984 and has held many teaching, leadership, and administrative roles across the school, most recently as our Timetabler and Relief Coordinator. She significantly contributed to Mount Maunganui College, particularly through the performing arts programme. Sioux will be deeply missed by all who knew her. |
______________________________________________________________ FEATURED ALUMNILuca Ririnui It is with great pride that we can share his recent achievement in the national Scholarship examinations in November. Luca earned nine scholarships in total, including five Outstanding Scholarships. This places Luca among the top 12 students nationwide, earning him a Premiere Scholarship. Notably, Luca was only one of two students outside of Auckland to receive this award and the only one in the North Island outside of Auckland. Luca has shown our students what is possible and sets the bar high for those who follow. Kehu Butler Kehu (2016) has teamed up with his longtime sponsor, global clothing and surf brand Quiksilver, to develop a line of clothing that reflects the connection between Kehu and Māori with the ocean. |
