--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tēnā koutou katoa,

In light of the ongoing national discussion regarding the Education & Training Amendment Bill No. 2, we are writing to clarify the Mount Maunganui College position, as held by senior management and the Board.

Our school has a long-standing and ongoing commitment to give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We believe partnership is essential for strong communities, and we will continue to uphold our commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for Māori ākonga.

For our kura, this is not a political position; it is a moral one.

Our commitment to culturally responsive and relational pedagogy and Treaty principles is not driven by legislation, but by a foundational belief in fairness and justice. Successive Boards and our school leadership have a strong track record of this work, and this will not change.

The Board will consider a formal public response at its next hui. However, most effective action takes place on the ground, and we fully support our staff in continuing the excellent work they do every day to honour Te Tiriti.

Ngā mihi nui,

Alastair Sinton and Maia Ririnui
on behalf of the
Mount Maunganui College
Senior Leadership Team and the Board of Members
