From the Principal
30 July 2021
Kia ora e te whanau,
Welcome to term 3.
This is an extremely important term in our school calendar for many reasons. Primarily our focus is on ensuring all our students are working hard to meet their academic goals. This requires a ‘team’ approach with students, teachers, deans and families to all be on the same page.
For our senior students, families receive fortnightly updates on their child’s progress via Dreamcatcher emails. This is a quick and easy way to check how things are going. Equally, keeping up to speed via the Parent Portal is a good habit for families to get into. This has real-time academic and attendance data and is another really useful tool for families to start shaping conversations with their child or with the school.
If you are unsure how to get access through the parent portal, please contact the front office and the team will be happy to help.
As always, if you have any concerns please contact the deans ASAP.

Next Wednesday is our annual open evening and hosting prospective students and parents is an opportunity for us to celebrate who we are. Further details are available by clicking here. Feel free to share these details with your networks as we begin accepting enrolments for 2022.
As a close-knit community, some of you will be aware of the challenge ahead for one of our families. Year 13 student Tia-Jayne Rodger has been diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. As a community, we want to support Tia-Jayne and the Rodger family as much as possible. Please see the post below and support in any way you can.
There is a new initiative from our Enviro group where they are planning to compile a regular newsletter to share with the Mount Maunganui College community. You can find the first newsletter here. ‘Fast Fashion’ is the topic so the group are also setting up a 2nd hand clothes buy/exchange day. Check the post below for further information.
The number of sporting achievements by Mount Maunganui College students is really piling up. Check the sports newsletter here for more detail. With our annual Lynfield exchange and Winter Tournament looming, I am looking forward to another exciting term for sports at the College.
Noho ora mai,
Alastair Sinton
