Tēnā koutou katoa, This week, we hosted the Education Review Office (ERO) for an on-site visit, and I am delighted to share that the feedback was incredibly positive. The reviewers were universally impressed by the educational standards at Mount Maunganui College, noting that the school consistently performs well across the board. They spent significant time in our classrooms and with our team, and they quickly highlighted the high quality of school-wide leadership, the strength of our curriculum, and our staff's dedication to student success in all areas, including enrichment and learning support. This review serves as a wonderful validation of the hard work that happens here every day. It confirms that our college is on an excellent path and that we provide a learning environment where our students can thrive. We take immense pride in these findings, which reflect the collective efforts of our staff, our students, and our wider community to build a truly great school. Thank you to all families who have taken the time over the past couple of weeks to engage with us at our NCEA information evening and our Year 9 barbecue. Throughout the year, we provide many opportunities for families to engage with us to support your child’s learning. Keep an eye on the newsletter and your emails for the details. We really enjoy meeting as many of you in person as possible. Our focus on school/family partnerships for 2026 and beyond will be on improving students' regular attendance. We have made changes to our systems to better support students and families with attendance. The government's target is for 80% of students to attain 90% attendance by 2030. To reach this target, there is a nationwide focus on discouraging holidays during term time and other explained, but unjustified absences. We acknowledge that there are instances when absence is unavoidable; however, we know that regular attendance is a determining factor in academic success and in preparing young people for the rigours of further study and future employment. Please carefully consider any absences before deciding to remove students from school. As always, please get in touch with us if you have and questions or concerns. Have a great weekend.
Ngā mihi nui, Alastair Sinton Principal |

Who are our people Here at Mount Maunganui College Sport, we're proud of the community that positively contributes to our programmes – our students, staff, volunteers and supporters. This week we spotlight Executive Leader and 1st XI Cricket captain Fraser Tustin.
Name: Fraser Tustin Year: 13 Sport: Cricket Tell us about yourself: I’m a 17 year old in my final year of school, and I’ve lived in the Mount my whole life. I’ve really enjoyed growing up here, as it’s given me so many great memories and opportunities. In my spare time, I enjoy playing sports and spending time with my mates. Why did you start playing sport: I’ve been playing sport for most of my life and first got into it through my family. Over the years, I’ve played a wide range of sports and really enjoyed meeting new people and sharing great experiences with them. Which is a big reason why I first got into sport and why I continue to play it. Aspirations: I want to continue working hard in both cricket and golf throughout my final year at school and beyond. I’m really motivated to keep training, improving my skills, and seeing how far I can take myself in both sports. What do you enjoy about Mount Maunganui Sport: I've been incredibly lucky to represent Mount Maunganui College in four sports during my time at school, however I have spent most of my time either playing Cricket or Golf. I've always found that with Mount Maunganui College Sport, there is a clear pathway for both competitive and social athletes. Whatever sport I've played here at Mount Maunganui College, I have thoroughly enjoyed it and have always been supported by great coaches / teachers. |

Chickenpox is currently circulating in our community. Keep an eye out for fever, runny nose, cough, and an itchy, blistering rash. Please keep your child at home for one week after the appearance of the rash, or until all the blisters have dried up. ______________________________________________________________ UNIFORMThanks to all our families who ensure our students head off to school in the correct school uniform. We know you have high expectations of how our students present themselves, so we appreciate your support. Occasionally, students present to school in incorrect uniforms, and it can be disappointing for staff to have to start the day by having a negative conversation with a student about uniforms. Here are some reminders to help ensure your child has a positive start to the day: - Uniform guidelines.
- As per the Board approved uniform the school skirt is not to have the length modified (eg shortened).
- If sandals are worn they must be black and have a back strap.
- If shoes are worn they must be completely black and polishable.
- Please ensure your child also adheres to our jewellery standards. No septums or rings are permitted on the face.
- Eyelash extensions are not permitted.
- We would like to remind families that only Mount Maunganui College trousers are to be worn. These can only be purchased from NZ Uniforms.
- Students can wear a non-regulation waterproof jacket to and from school on wet days.
- Discipline and defiance procedures will be used to deal with ongoing uniform issues if not resolved promptly.

______________________________________________________________ SCHOOL BUS SERVICEThis is a reminder to families that the school has a very efficient bus service. This service will ensure your child arrives at school on time and is ready for period 1 classes. While students can use the commercial bus service free during school hours provided they have a BEE card they cannot guarantee that they will arrive ready for an 8.45 am start. Many of these services mean that students are missing up to 30 minutes of learning time each day. Please encourage your child to use the school buses each day. This may mean they need to leave the house earlier, but it guarantees they are ready for the start of school. Up-to-date information on the school buses is on the school website https://www.mmc.school.nz/key-info/bus-information The afternoon buses leave the school grounds promptly at 3pm each day. The 712a buses are now arriving at 3 pm and the later one arrives at approximately 3.10pm. Since the beginning of the 2025 academic year, we have seen an increase in the number of students travelling on some school bus services without a Bee Card. While all school buses remain free to use, certain services require students to tag on and off with a registered Bee Card. This is important for monitoring usage and supporting ongoing planning. To check whether a student’s school bus service requires a Bee Card, please visit our website: www.baybus.co.nz/plan-your-trip/school-bus-services/ We kindly ask all parents, caregivers, and schools to ensure that students travelling on these services carry and use their registered Bee Card. Please note that students without a registered Bee Card may be unable to travel. Thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain a safe, reliable, and efficient school bus system. |
______________________________________________________________ STUDENT ID PHOTOSAs ID cards are not required for school, students will not receive one this year unless they order it through the Photolife website. Information on how to order will be sent out from Photolife, and cards will be sent directly to them. Parent Queries – Please contact Photolife at: enquiries@photolife.co.nz |
